The Center for Banking and Finance at the University of North Carolina School of Law was established in July 2000 to recognize and further the growing importance of banking and finance to the economy of North Carolina.
The Center’s mission is to support the leadership role played by North Carolina-based financial institutions in the continual evolution of the financial services industry. To that end, the Center provides support to the banking industry not only in North Carolina, but nationally, by sponsoring a number of activities annually, including: the North Carolina Banking Institute, a prominent CLE program with over 250 guests annually; the Dan K. Moore Program in Ethics, focusing on ethical issues of interest to corporate attorneys; the Consumer Law and Consumer Credit Symposium as part of the Festival of Legal Learning; and the North Carolina Bank Director’s College with the North Carolina Office of the Commissioner of Banks.
In addition to sponsoring activities, the Center also works closely with the student-edited legal journal, the North Carolina Banking Institute.
Guided by a distinguished Board of Advisors, Wells Fargo Professor of Banking Law Lissa Broome is the director of the Center.

The North Carolina Banking Institute CLE Program
The annual North Carolina Banking Institute CLE Program is designed to serve the continually evolving financial services industry by providing the highest quality continuing education focused on cutting-edge issues related to banking law and regulation for bankers and their attorneys.
The Banking Institute is sponsored by the Center for Banking and Finance, and is made possible by the extensive planning and commitment of the Center’s Board of Advisors, a distinguished group of banking law practitioners from the country’s leading banks and law firms. It is the Banking Institute’s commitment to provide the best possible banking CLE program in the country.
Participants of the annual Banking Institute receive a copy of the latest volume of the North Carolina Banking Institute journal, which is used in a number of the program’s presentations. The journal is an invaluable reference for in-depth treatment on recent developments of interest to banking lawyers and is recognized as one of the most timely, relevant, and thorough treatments of breaking issues of banking law.
