I have worked in privacy for almost 20 years, and I\u00a0passionately believe we need to think carefully about the privacy\u00a0implications that come with technology, especially when we are\u00a0dealing with the home.<br \/>\nThe rapid increase of technology is re-defining our very\u00a0concept of \u201chome,\u201d and that raises several crucial questions:<\/p>\n<ol>\n<li>\u00a0what do we mean by \u201chome,\u201d<\/li>\n<li>\u00a0why do we expect more privacy in our homes, and<\/li>\n<li>if that is a legitimate expectation under the current legal\u00a0doctrine, is that expectation sustainable \u2013 or even reasonable \u2013 in a\u00a0sensor-laden world where actions inside and outside the house are\u00a0documented, gauged and stored?<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Keynote, UNC JOLT 2016 Symposium We have heard all morning about legal issues with the Internet\u00a0of Things; I want to begin with acknowledging the human aspects\u00a0and human interests in Internet-enabled homes, which are more\u00a0visceral and personal than IoT devices monitoring other\u00a0interactions.
