Here is your latest First Amendment news. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The U.S. Supreme Court has agreed to review the First\nAmendment case <em><a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtontimes.com\/news\/2019\/jan\/5\/scotus-review-fuct-trademark-first-amendment-case-\/\">Iancu\nv. Brunetti<\/a><\/em>. The case involves a fashion designer fighting to register \u201cFUCT\u201d\nas the name of his clothing line with the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO).\n<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The <a href=\"https:\/\/fox13now.com\/2019\/01\/05\/the-utah-gops-civil-war-continues-into-2019-with-the-u-s-supreme-court-being-asked-to-hear-appeal\/\">Utah\nRepublican Party\u2019s ongoing \u201ccivil war\u201d<\/a> is continuing into 2019 with the\nU.S. Supreme Court being asked to hear an appeal over who can be a candidate\nfor the GOP on the ballot. The U.S. Pastor Council, Christian Life Center and\nthe Layton Christian Academy submitted their own amicus briefs, asking the\nnation\u2019s top court to hear the Utah GOP\u2019s appeal of the Senate Bill 54 lawsuit.\nThey argued the Utah GOP\u2019s lawsuit has a \u201creligious freedom\u201d aspect to it.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Netflix <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/2019\/01\/06\/business\/media\/netflix-saudi-arabia-censorship-hasan-minhaj.html\">removed\nan episode of \u201cPatriot Act\u201d<\/a> with the comedian Hasan Minhaj from its service\nin Saudi Arabia at the request of the government there.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The&nbsp;<em><a href=\"https:\/\/www.arkansasonline.com\/news\/2019\/jan\/04\/halt-boycott-law-suit-state-urges-u-s-c-1\/\">Arkansas\nTimes&nbsp;newspaper&#8217;s<\/a><\/em> challenge\nto a law prohibiting state entities from contracting with companies that\nboycott Israel or won&#8217;t pledge not to should be thrown out for failing to raise\na valid First Amendment issue, an attorney for the state argued Thursday.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.cecildaily.com\/news\/state_news\/judge-bars-enforcement-of-md-online-political-ad-law-on\/article_1c0d962a-b215-5bab-94ea-65adc4ad83e2.html\">Parts\nof a Maryland law aimed<\/a> at stopping foreign interference in local elections\non social media platforms such as Facebook appear to encroach on the First\nAmendment, a federal judge has ruled.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Rhode Island Supreme Court <a href=\"https:\/\/www.wpri.com\/news\/local-news\/providence\/back-in-business-foxy-lady-reopening-after-3-week-closure\/1686446467\">allows\nshut down strip club to reopen<\/a> after amicus brief from the ACLU argues that\nshutting down the club is a violation of the First Amendment. <\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Happy Monday!!
