href=\"https:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/reuters\/2018\/02\/15\/us\/15reuters-new-york-citizens-united.html\">Citizens United<\/a> to New York\u2019s requirement that registered charities disclose their donors annually.<\/p>\n<p>The organizers of the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/2018\/02\/12\/us\/charlottesville-lawsuit-far-right-heather-heyer.html\">Charlottesville rally<\/a> plan to use a First Amendment defense to a lawsuit alleging that the rally organizers incited violence and are legally responsible for the 30 injuries and one death that occurred.<\/p>\n<p>A brother and sister convicted of <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/aponline\/2018\/02\/07\/us\/ap-pa-delaware-courthouse-shootings.html\">cyberstalking<\/a> linked to the brother\u2019s ex-wife\u2019s death allege that their freedom of speech rights were violated.<\/p>\n<p>A high school senior filed suit stating his First Amendment rights were violated after he was told <a href=\"http:\/\/www.chicagotribune.com\/suburbs\/ct-met-cary-grove-first-amendment-20180209-story.html\">not to interrupt<\/a> the city mayor\u2019s question and answer session at his high school.<\/p>\n<p>Arguments have begun in the ACLU of San Diego\u2019s appeal to the Ninth Circuit to rule that a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.courthousenews.com\/ninth-circuit-asked-to-quash-limits-on-border-crossing-photos\/\">U.S. Customs and Border Protection policy prohibiting photographers at border ports<\/a> without permission violates the First Amendment.<\/p>\n<p><!--more--><\/p>\n<p>The Second Circuit revived free speech claims for a poet who was barred from the studio of a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.courthousenews.com\/court-revives-poets-free-speech-claims-against-public-tv\/\">public-access television<\/a> corporation by ruling that the public access channel is a public forum.<\/p>\n<p>A federal lawsuit was filed that alleges two brothers were unlawfully arrested in violation of their First Amendment rights for <a href=\"http:\/\/baltimore.cbslocal.com\/2018\/02\/14\/lawsuit-alleges-unlawful-arrests\/\">carrying a sign on a public sidewalk<\/a>\u00a0in Annapolis, Maryland.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><em><strong>State Court News<\/strong><\/em><\/p>\n<p>The Wisconsin Supreme Court ruled that state officials may <a href=\"https:\/\/www.courthousenews.com\/wisconsin-justices-rule-state-can-wait-to-release-union-voting-records\/\">shield the names of voters<\/a> while union recertification elections are underway\u00a0to protect voters from potential intimidation and harassment without violating the First Amendment .<\/p>\n<p>A California court allowed a California bakery owner to continue to refuse to make <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/aponline\/2018\/02\/06\/us\/ap-us-same-sex-wedding-cake.html\">wedding cakes for same-sex couples<\/a> because it violates her religious beliefs.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cGoodfellas\u201d actor Frank Sivero\u2019s bid to end the \u201cSimpsons\u201d mob henchman character Louie was shot down by a California appeals court, which found Sivero had been sufficiently \u201c<a href=\"https:\/\/www.hollywoodreporter.com\/thr-esq\/appeals-court-wont-let-goodfellas-actor-have-shot-at-simpsons-mob-character-1084379\">Simpsonized<\/a>\u201d to be protected by the First Amendment.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><em><strong>Other News<\/strong><\/em><\/p>\n<p>The Georgia state senate press office sent a letter to the press pool threatening to revoke press access to reporters who <a href=\"http:\/\/www.cbs46.com\/story\/37507349\/state-senate-threatens-to-revoke-press-access-in-first-amendment-battle\">\u201cambush\u201d state senators<\/a> for spontaneous interviews.<\/p>\n<p>Duke University\u2019s School of Law plans to open a <a href=\"http:\/\/www.heraldsun.com\/news\/local\/counties\/durham-county\/article199567074.html\">First Amendment legal clinic<\/a> offering pro bono legal help for media groups and individuals in the Southeast region to fend off attempts to suppress or inhibit free
